1. Information We Collect
When you use Distill, we collect information you provide directly:
- Account information (email address, name) via Google OAuth
- Phone number, if you opt in to SMS summaries
- YouTube URLs you submit for summarization
- Channel subscriptions and content preferences
- Feedback and ratings on action items
- Chat conversations with our AI assistant
2. How We Use Your Information
We use your information to:
- Generate personalized summaries and action items from content you submit
- Send email notifications and daily digests about completed summaries
- Send SMS verification codes and summary completion notifications (if opted in)
- Improve content personalization based on your feedback
- Operate and maintain the service
3. Information Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for marketing purposes. We use the following third-party services solely to operate Distill:
- Supabase — authentication and data storage
- Anthropic & OpenAI — AI-powered summarization
- Twilio — SMS message delivery
- Resend — email delivery
- Google Cloud Platform — hosting infrastructure
4. SMS & Messaging
If you opt in to SMS summaries, we collect your phone number to send you:
- A one-time verification code when you register your number
- A welcome message confirming your number is linked
- Summary completion notifications when you submit URLs via text
Message frequency varies based on your usage. Message and data rates may apply. You can remove your phone number at any time in Settings to stop all SMS messages.
5. Chrome Extension
The Distill Chrome extension provides one-click content summarization from your browser. When you use the extension:
- Active tab URL: The extension reads the URL of your current tab only when you interact with it (click the popup or use the context menu). No browsing history is collected.
- Data sent to server: When you submit content, only the video or page URL is sent to our API for processing. No other page content is transmitted.
- Local storage: Your authentication token is stored in
chrome.storage.local on your device to keep you signed in. No other personal data is stored locally by the extension. - Permissions: The extension requests only the minimum permissions needed to function — active tab detection, local storage, notifications for completed summaries, and context menu integration.
6. Data Retention
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. You can export all your data or delete your account at any time from the Settings page.
7. Security
We use industry-standard security measures including encrypted connections (TLS), row-level security policies, and secure authentication tokens to protect your data.
